This thesis focuses on the investigation of the function of a minimum natural light source – which is specified as the light of a candle - and the role and potential of light sources in the field of Art, which relates to interactive video-installations. The particular research (a) refers to the metamorphoses of the minimum natural light source, as well as the meanings and symbolisms, which it has acquired through centuries. Additionally, (b) it aims to bring out those properties, which give to light a prominent role in Art and especially in the field of new media and its applications. Finally, (c) it examines the dynamics of the minimum light source - if something like this indeed exists – as well as light as an independent and sovereign entity in the work.In the course of its formation, this thesis developed a multi-part structure. Thus, each chapter is accompanied by its corresponding installation.
Η διδακτορική έρευνα αφορά στη διερεύνηση της λειτουργίας της ελάχιστης φυσικής φωτεινής πηγής –την οποία προσδιορίζει στο φως ενός κεριού- καθώς και στο ρόλο και τις δυνατότητες των φωτεινών πηγών στο πεδίο της τέχνης που σχετίζεται με τις διαδραστικές video-εγκαταστάσεις. Το κάθε κεφάλαιο της διατριβής συνοδεύεται από αντίστοιχο έργο-εγκατάσταση.Η συγκεκριμένη έρευνα (α) αναφέρεται στις μεταμορφώσεις της ελάχιστης φυσικής φωτεινής πηγής, τις έννοιες καθώς και τους συμβολισμούς τους οποίους αυτή επιδέχεται διαμέσου των αιώνων. Επιπρόσθετα, (β) καλείται να αναδείξει τις ιδιότητες εκείνες που προσδίδουν στο φως πρωτεύοντα ρόλο στην Τέχνη και ειδικά στον τομέα των νέων μέσων και των εφαρμογών της. Τέλος, (γ) εξετάζει τη δυναμική της ελάχιστης πηγής φωτός -αν υφίσταται κάτι τέτοιο– και το φως ως ανεξάρτητη και κυρίαρχη οντότητα στο έργο.
