This particular research, within the framework of the post-modern perspective on gender, attempted to investigate on how the gender identity is constructed on girls during their pre-puberty stage of life, through components of their ethno-cultural origin and their socio-economic status with reference to the experience of 15 girls in their pre-puberty stage and their mothers. The research was qualitative. Focus-groups, drawing sessions based on the Betensky’s phenomenology method and semi-structures interviews, were used in order to collect the necessary data, while everything was analyzed by the thematic method. The results makes quite clear, within the experience of the particular girls and their mothers, that the pre-puberty gender identity is structured by two parallel influences. The first one consists of the popular culture and the mother-daughter relationship, while the ethno-cultural origin and the socio-economic status are very important factors in composing the identity of each girl.
Με πλαίσιο τη μεταμοντέρνα θεώρηση του φύλου η μελέτη αυτή διερεύνησε το πώς κατασκευάζεται η έμφυλη ταυτότητα στα προέφηβα κορίτσια μέσα από τις συνιστώσες της εθνοπολιτισμικής προέλευσης και της κοινωνικοοικονομικής κατάστασης αναφορικά με τις εμπειρίες των 15 προεφήβων κοριτσιών και των μητέρων τους. Η έρευνα ήταν ποιοτική. Για τη συλλογή των δεδομένων χρησιμοποιήθηκαν οι ομάδες εστίασης, η φαινομενολογική μέθοδος της Betensky και οι ημι-δομημένες συνεντεύξεις, ενώ η ανάλυση έγινε με τη θεματική μέθοδο. Τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν ότι μέσα από την εμπειρία των προεφήβων κοριτσιών και των μητέρων τους διαφαίνεται ότι η έμφυλη ταυτότητα στην προεφηβεία δέχεται επιρροές από τη λαϊκή κουλτούρα και τη σχέση μητέρας με κόρη, καθώς και ότι η εθνοπολιτισμική προέλευση και η κοινωνικοοικονομική κατάσταση αποτελούν συνιστώσες της δόμησης της κοριτσίστικης ταυτότητας.
