Quintus Horatius Flaccus, one of the greatest poets of classical Rome, sits at the core of this study, which focuses on his last and most complex work, the Epistles. Earlier studies of the two books of this collection brought to the fore the issue of intertextuality, as well as the necessity for more research concerning the originality of Horace in comparison to the preceding literary tradition; eventually, critics have concluded that he managed to distinguish himself from his predecessors and turned to new writing creations, perfectly adapted to his personal poetic expectations.The aim of this study is to underline the intertextual ties of the Epistles, not only with earlier and contemporary literary production, but also with Horace’s own previous work, by taking for granted that the mission and expectations of his poetry has evolved considerably since his first poetic collection, the Satires.
Σκοπός της διατριβής είναι να καταδείξει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο ο Οράτιος κατορθώνει στις Επιστολές του να οδηγήσει την ποίησή του σε μία νέα συγγραφική πορεία και να διαφοροποιηθεί σε μεγάλο βαθμό από τα προηγούμενα έργα του, ειδικά από το πρώτο του εγχείρημα, δηλαδή τις Σάτιρες, ο διάλογος με τις οποίες είναι εμφανής κυρίως στο πρώτο βιβλίο της συλλογής. Μέσα από την ανάλυση των είκοσι ποιημάτων του πρώτου βιβλίου των Επιστολών, προβάλλεται η διακειμενική σχέση του ποιητή, τόσο με άλλους προγενέστερους και συγχρόνους του ποιητές, όσο και με τον ίδιο του τον εαυτό.
