Αντικείμενο της διατριβής αποτέλεσε η ασκηθείσα κρατική πολιτική στη ναυτική εργασία και στην εμπορική ναυτιλία κατά το μεσοπόλεμο. Αναλύθηκαν οι επιπτώσεις της, το ιδεολογικό υπόβαθρο και τα συστήματα αξιών που κυριάρχησαν στη διαμόρφωση και στην εφαρμογή της καθώς κι ο ρόλος των εμπλεκομένων μερών και κυρίως των εφοπλιστών και των ναυτικών. Το ενδιαφέρον επικεντρώθηκε στη μελέτη των στοιχείων, που αφορούσαν στην προσαρμογή της ναυτικής εργασίας στις ομόχρονες διεθνείς, κατά μείζονα λόγο, συνθήκες της εμπορικής ναυτιλίας και δευτερευόντως της ελληνικής οικονομίας και κοινωνίας.
The subject of the doctoral thesis was the applied state policy on maritime labour and mercantile marine during the interwar period. It analyses its implications, the ideological background and the value systems that dominated its formulation and implementation, as well as the role of the parties involved, and in particular the shipowners and seafarers. The attention was focused on the study of the data concerning the adaptation of maritime labour to the concurrent international conditions of mercantile marine and to the Greek economy and society.
