In our thesis we approach the concept of apostrophe in French romantic poetry and mainly in the poems of Hugo, Lamartine, Musset and Vigny. We define and analyze this phenomenon, investigate its connexions to the lyrical genre and evaluate its role as modificator of a poem and as founder of intertextuality. We also try to answer the question whether the apostrophe influences the enunciation (act of producing an utterance) or the enunciation influences the apostrophe or both. Until now we have detected only one thesis on apostrophe in Latin literary texts. There is a certain gap in the given literature about this versatile feature. We apply a rather interdisciplinary and multimethod approach so to reveal the aspects of the apostrophe and its connexions to the context and paratext; we establish our method on speech theories, on pragmatic theories, on semiotics, on stylistics and on the analysis of the grammar and syntax. We come to the conclusion that the apostrophe is synonymous to the romantic poetry and capable of affecting the enunciation in order to create an allocutaire otherwise inexistent. In romantic poetry the apostrophe is addressed even to the poetry itself; in this way it announces a metapoetry within the romantic poem and at the same time it creates a meta-metaenunciation. Sometimes the romantic poets contact each other through the apostrophes in their poems which reflect a vivid and innovating intertextuality. The apostrophe holds an illocutionary force capable of creating acts of speech; we introduce the concept of performative apostrophe. Every attempt to synthesize the aspects of the apostrophe seems vain only because the reader can detect the apostrophe but he cannot always perceive its origin and interpretation; so we proved the reader’s embarrassment. Thus, our thesis registers as part of research on literature, stylistics and semiotics so that our method of analysis of the apostrophe can be applied in other poetry movements as well.
Στην διατριβή μελετάται η κλητική προσφώνηση στη Γαλλική ρομαντική ποίηση και πιο συγκεκριμένα σε ποιητικά έργα του Ουγκώ, Λαμαρτίν, Μισέ και Βινί. Ορίζεται και αναλύεται το φαινόμενο της κλητικής προσφώνησης και αναζητάται η σχέση του με το λυρισμό. Η κλητική προσφώνηση αποτελεί τροποποιητικό παράγοντα του ποιητικού κειμένου καθώς και βασικό στοιχείο της διακειμενικότητας του. Επιχειρείται μελέτη της επιρροής της κλητικής προσφώνησης στην εκφορά κι έκφραση του λόγου (énonciation) καθώς και της επίδρασης του λόγου στην κλητική προσφώνηση. Μέχρι της στιγμή της ολοκλήρωσης της παρούσας μελέτης, μία μόνο διατριβή εντοπίζεται σχετικά με την κλητική προσφώνηση σε κείμενα λατινικής λογοτεχνίας. Διαπιστώνεται λοιπόν ένα κενό στην μέχρι τώρα βιβλιογραφία σχετικά με την ολιστική μελέτη του φαινομένου αυτού. Εφαρμόζεται μια προσέγγιση πολυμεθοδολογικής και διεπιστημονικής μελέτης προκειμένου να αποκαλυφθούν όλες οι πτυχές του φαινομένου και της σχέσης του με το κείμενο (texte) και το πάρα-κειμενο (para-texte). Η μεθοδολογία βασίζεται στις θεωρίες της εκφοράς του λόγου, στις πραγματολογικές, σημειολογικές και υφολογικές θεωρίες, καθώς και στην γραμματικο-συντακτική ανάλυση. Διαπιστώνεται ότι η κλητική προσφώνηση καταλήγει να ταυτίζεται πολλές φορές με τη ρομαντική ποίηση και να επηρεάζει την εκφορά του ποιητικού λόγου, δημιουργώντας εναν συνομιλητή (allocutaire) που στην πραγματικότητα δεν υπάρχει. Η κλητική προσφώνηση μέσα στη ρομαντική ποίηση μπορεί να απευθύνεται ακόμα και στην ίδια την ποίηση. Με αυτό τον τρόπο αναγγέλεται μια μετα-ποιητικότητα (métapoétique) δημιουργώντας μια μετα-μεταεκφώνηση (méta-métaénonciation). Οι Γάλλοι ρομαντικοί ποιητές απευθύνονται συχνά ο ένας στον άλλο χρησιμοποιώντας την κλητική προσφώνηση μέσα στα ποιήματά τους, πράγμα που παραπέμπει σε μια καινοτόμα και παραγωγική διακειμενικότητα. Η κλητική προσφώνηση διαθέτει επίσης και μια παραλεκτική δύναμη (pouvoir illocutoire) που γεννά πράξεις λόγου (actes de parole). Σε αυτή τη περίπτωση γίνεται λόγος για την επιτελεστικότητα (perfrormativité) της κλητικής προσφώνησης. Παρόλαυτά, κάθε προσπάθεια σύνθεσης όλων των πτυχών και ρόλων της κλητικής προσφώνησης μοιάζει ουτοπική, κυρίως διότι ο αναγνώστης την αντιλαμβάνεται και την εντοπίζει σχετικά εύκολα μέσα στο κείμενο, αλλα δύσκολα κατανοεί πλήρως τον παραγωγικό και ερμηνευτικό της χαρακτήρα. Σε αυτή την περίπτωση γίνεται λόγος για την αμηχανιά (embarras) του αναγνώστη απέναντι σε αυτό το φαινόμενο. Τέλος, η παρούσα διατριβή συντάσσεται στο πλαίσιο των γραμματολογικών, λογοτεχνικών, πραγματολογικών, σημειολογικών και υφολογικών ερευνών, αποτελώντας προάγγελο μιας μεθοδολογικής ανάλυσης που θα μπορούσε να εφαρμοστεί και σε άλλα ποιητικά κινήματα.
Dans notre thèse nous étudions l’apostrophe dans la poésie romantique française et plus précisément dans les œuvres poétiques de Hugo, Lamartine, Musset et Vigny. Nous définissons et analysons ce phénomène et nous investiguons ses rapports au genre lyrique et son rôle de modificateur du texte poétique et de fondateur de l’énonciation intertextuelle. Nous essayons de montrer si l’apostrophe influe sur l’énonciation ou si l’énonciation influe sur l’apostrophe ou les deux. Jusqu’à maintenant nous ne détectons qu’une seule thèse de doctorat centrée exclusivement sur l’étude du phénomène de l’apostrophe dans un texte de littérature latine. Nous constatons donc une lacune dans la littérature existante concernant ce procédé polyvalent de la poésie. Nous appliquons une approche polyméthodologique et interdisciplinaire afin de relever les aspects de l’apostrophe et ses connexions avec le contexte et le paratexte ; nous appuyons notre méthode sur les théories énonciatives, pragmatiques, sémiotiques et stylistiques, ainsi que sur l’analyse grammatico-syntaxique de l’apostrophe. Nous constatons que l’apostrophe finit par être considérée comme synonyme de la poésie romantique et capable d’influer sur l’énonciation et de créer un allocutaire sinon inexistant. En poésie romantique l’apostrophe peut s’adresser à la poésie même ; elle annonce donc une métapoétique au sein du poème romantique et elle produit donc une méta-métaénonciation. Les poètes romantiques s’adressent parfois les uns aux autres en employant les apostrophes dans leurs poèmes, ce qui renvoie à une intertextualité productive et novatrice. L’apostrophe possède aussi un pouvoir illocutoire capable de créer des actes de parole ; nous avons introduit la notion de performativité de l’apostrophe. Toute tentative de synthèse sur les aspects de l’apostrophe semble pourtant utopique surtout parce que le lecteur peut facilement la comprendre mais difficilement en saisir la productivité et l’interprétation ; nous montrons donc l’embarras du lecteur. Notre thèse s’inscrit dans le cadre des recherches en littérature, en stylistique et en sémiotique en rendant possible une potentielle application de notre méthode d’analyse à d’autres mouvements poétiques aussi.
