The objective of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR/NHRF) is the research of the political, economic, social and cultural history of the Hellenic area and the regions where Hellenism has been active, from prehistoric antiquity to the modern era. The Institute was formed in 2012 from the development of the three former humanities institutes of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (KERA, IBR and INR), the oldest Greek research institutions on historical and philological sciences. Its research activities focus on the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, as well as the training of younger researchers, thus contributing decisively to national self-awareness and international scientific cooperation in the scientific fields it serves. The Institute’s research activity is organized into three Sections: Section of Greek & Roman Antiquity Section of Byzantine Research Section of Neohellenic Research

The publication of the journal began at the Institute for Byzantine Research (IBR) -and now Section of Byzantine Research of the Institute of Historical Research (National Hellenic Research Foundation)- in 1966 under the title ΣΥΜΜΕΙΚΤΑ. Since that time seventeen volumes of the journal have been published, approximately one every two years. The journal is the primary publication medium for research carried out at the Section of Byzantine Research, either by its own research staff or by external collaborators. The focus of ΣΥΜΜΕΙΚΤΑ laid mostly in Byzantine history, literature and archival research. In 2007 IBR reviewed the journal’s mission, and decided to expand its scope and open it up to the international scholarly community engaged in Byzantine Studies.

The Historical Revue / La Revue Historique is an annual refereed journal of historical research in the human sciences published by the Institute for Neohellenic Research (INR) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) since 2004. It was established as a medium of communication and exchange of ideas with colleagues around the world. We invite original papers and critical perspectives from a wide range of fields within Modern Greek studies, but are not limited to it. Our intention is to provide a medium of dialogue and reflection in the broad field of historical study in the human sciences. In the effort to intensify scholarly dialogue the INR has decided to take advantage of electronic publishing to provide open access to the full content of the journal. A fully electronic publication management system ensures a speedy process, and offers authors the ability to follow the progress of their manuscripts through the publication process. Revised manuscripts of accepted articles are published immediately upon submission of the final version. Each volume comprises the total of the articles published during the year. The print edition appears at the end of every year. The National Documentation Centre (EKT), also part of the NHRF, provides publication management and technical support for the electronic publication of The Historical Revue / La Revue Historique.
