Στόχος της εργασίας αυτής είναι η μελέτη του γονιδίου της γλουταμίνης αφυδρογονάσης στη Drosophila Melanogaster και η διερεύνηση της εμπλοκής του ενζύμου στη ρύθμιση των επιπέδων του γλουταμινικού νευρομυελοδιαβιβαστή στις συνάψεις. Απομονώθηκε και χαρακτηρίστηκε ο γενωμικός τόπος στη Drosophila. Το γονίδο είναι μοναδικό και κλωνοποιεί δύο τύπους μηνυμάτων που διαφέρουν στην εναλλακτική χρήση ενός εξονίου. Η διακύμανση των επιπέδων των δυο μηνυμάτων κατά την εμβρυογένεση υποδηλώνει πιθανή ιστική ή και λειτουργική διαφοροποίησή τους. Το πρότυπο της έκφρασης της πρωτεΐνης στους εμβρυϊκούς σωματικούς μύες και τη νευρική χορδή ισχυροποιεί την εκδοχή συμμετοχής του ενζύμου στη ρύθμιση των αποθηκών γλουταμινικού διαβιβαστή.

Aim of this research was to study the gene of glutamate dehydrogenase in Drosophila Melanogaster andthe involvement of the enzyme in the regulation of glutamate neuromuscular transmitter pools at the synapsis. The genetic locus was cloned and charactrized. The Drosophila gene is unique and encodes for two alternative spliced messages differing in the presence of absence of an exon. The fluctuation of th level of the two messages during the embyogenesis suggests possible tissue of functional differentiation between them. The pattern of expression of the protein at the embyonic somatic musculature and the nerve cord enhaces the possibility tha the enzyme is involved in the regulation of the transmitter glutamata pools.
