Ghor as-Safi has produced to date some 400 Greek inscriptions, a valuable epigraphic corpus coming in the main from the An-Naq cemetery, and brought together thanks to the indefatigable salvage and recording efforts of Konstantinos D. Politis. The vast majority of these finds, consisting, with rare exceptions, of inscribed tombstones, was first published in two volumes by Yiannis E. Meimaris and Kalliope I. Kritikakou-Nikolaropoulou of the National Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens. The new stelae, made of local sandstone, bear Greek epitaphs which belong to members of the local Christian community of Zoara/Zoora. Nearly all of them are dated by the era of Provincia Arabia and range between the mid-fourth and the early sixth century AD, as do the majority of the earlier published Greek inscriptions from this site.
