The present paper investigates various lexicographical and metalexicographical issues concerning the study and the description of the semantic potential of a lexeme. These issues are approached within the framework of international lexicographic research, with special focus on the Modern Greek language and its representation in the Historical Dictionary of Modern Greek (ILNE) of the Academy of Athens.
