Στην παρούσα εργασία προσεγγίζεται η σχέση ανάμεσα στη μητέρα /τροφό και το παιδί υπό το πρίσμα της μητρικής αγάπης και του μητρικού ενστίκτου. Η προσέγγιση του ρόλου της μητέρας/τροφού γίνεται αναλυτικά στα εξολοκλήρου ή σε μεγάλο βαθμό σωζόμενα έργα (Σαμία, Δύσκολος, Επιτρέποντες) και ανιχνεύεται με τη μεγαλύτερη δυνατή προσπάθεια στα περισσότερο αποσπασματικά έργα (Περικειρομένη, Σικυώνιος, Φάσμα). Το μητρικό ένστικτο είναι μοτίβο που εμφανίζεται ως στοιχείο πλοκής και δράσης, συνδέεται με την κοινωνική θέση της γυναίκας και την κριτική από τον ποιητή για τον θεσμό της εκθέσεως των βρεφών. Στο επίκεντρο της δραματουργικής οπτικής του Μενάνδρου μπαίνει η γυναίκα, η γυναικεία ψυχολογία και ο συναισθηματικός της κόσμος. Ανιχνεύονται ομοιότητες και διαφορές ανάμεσα στις βιολογικές μητέρες, τις τροφούς και τις εταίρες. Η σχέση των γυναικών με τα παιδιά, είτε βρέφη είτε μεγαλύτερα αναδεικνύει χαρακτήρες και φέρνει στο προσκήνιο μια τρυφερή σχέση σε μια δύσκολη εποχή όπως η ελληνιστική

Ιn the present study the relationship between mother / nurse and child is approached in the light of maternal love and mother instinct. The approach of the role of the mother / nurse is analyzed in the totally or largely saved works (Samia, Dyscolus, the Arbitration) and is detected with the greatest possible effort in the most fragmentary works (Periceiromene, Sikyonios, Ghost). Maternal instinct is a pattern that appears as a component of plotting and action, linked to the woman's social position and the criticism of the poet about the institution of infant exposure. The woman, woman's psychology and emotional world are at the center of the dramatic eye of Menander.
Similarities and differences between biological mothers, nurses and sexual partners are detected. The relationship between women and children, either infants or older, highlights characters and brings to light a tender relationship in a difficult time such as Hellenistic.
