A simplified but very reliable approach for the postbuckling analysis of pultruded composite bars and simple two-bar frames using the classical lamination theory is comprehensively presented. The overall postbuckling responses for symmetric I-structural shapes made from commercially available composite and homogeneous materials are thoroughly discussed. This leads to the optimum design of the structures under consideration. A simple stability criterion is also established for a direct determination of the critical loads. Two numerical examples are used to illustrate the simplicity and efficiency of the proposed procedure. (EN)
