Ο τίτλος της έρευνας είναι Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, από τον ελεμενταρισμό στον σουπρεματισμό και η επιστροφή στην schinkel-schule και αφορά τα εξής ερωτήματα: Ποιά η επιρροή των κινημάτων τέχνης, των διαφόρων -ισμών (κονστρουκτιβισμός, κυβισμός, φουτουρισμός, εξπρεσιονισμός, σουπρεματισμός, νεοπλαστικισμός κλπ.) στον χαρακτήρα της αρχιτεκτονικής του Mies;
Ποιά ήταν η σχέση με την σχολή του bauhaus; Ποιά ήταν η επιρροή του Mies στο διεθνές στυλ; Κατά πόσο τα κινήματα στις αρχές του αιώνα επηρέασαν το έργο του στην Αμερική και πως το διαμόρφωσαν;
Η μεθοδολογία που θα ακολουθηθεί προκειμένου να απαντηθούν τα παραπάνω ερωτήματα είναι η διερεύνηση των δράσεων του καθόλη την διάρκεια της εξελικτικής του πορείας, όπου παρατηρείται ότι το αρχιτεκτονικό συντακτικό αλλάζει δραστικά μορφή λόγω των επιρροών που δέχεται από τα καλλιτεχνικά κινήματα και τις κοινωνικοοικονομικές συνθήκες της εποχής. Αν και τα καλλιτεχνικά κινήματα είχαν πολιτική ρίζα, η έρευνα δεν επικεντρώνεται στο πολιτικό πρόσημο του μοντέρνου. Βιβλία κλειδιά για την έρευνα αποτέλεσαν το “Space, Time and Architecture” του Sigfried Giedion, η “Μοντέρνα Αρχιτεκτονική” του Kenneth Frampton και “Θεωρία και Σχεδιασμός την πρώτη βιομηχανική εποχή” του Reyner Banham κ.ά.
Σκοπός της συγκεκριμένης έρευνας είναι μέσω του έργου του Mies, να παρατηρηθεί η σχέση τέχνης- αρχιτεκτονικής, ο διάλογος μεταξύ τους, η επίλυση προβλημάτων αρχιτεκτονικής μέσα από την τέχνη των αρχών του 20ου αιώνα.

The title of the research is Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, from Elementalism to Suprematism and the return to the schinkel-schule and it addresses the following questions: What is the influence of the art movements, the various -isms (constructivism, cubism, futurism, expressionism, suprematism, neo-plasticism, etc.) on the character of Mies's architecture?
What was the relationship with the bauhaus school? What was Mies’s influence on international style? To what extent did the movements at the turn of the century influence his work in America and how did they shape it?
The methodology that will be followed in order to answer the above questions is to investigate his actions throughout his evolutionary course, where it is observed that the architectural syntax changes drastically in form due to the influences of the artistic movements and the socio-economic conditions of the time. Although the artistic movements had political roots, the research does not focus on the political connotation of modernism. Key books for the research were "Space, Time and Architecture" by Sigfried Giedion, "Modern Architecture" by Kenneth Frampton and "Theory and Design in the First Machine Age" by Reyner Banham etc.
The aim of this research is to observe, through Mies's work, the relationship between art and architecture, the dialogue between them, and the solution of architectural problems through the art of the early 20th century.
