Further examples are presented of the usefulness of the N-o-nitrophenylsulfenyl (NPS) group as an N-protecting group for a-amino acids or a-amino acids bearing a@r@nprotected side-chain functional group. The wide applicability of the new method is demonstrated by the synthesis of various peptides, e.g., L-phenylalanyl-L-glutaminyl-L-glutamyl-L-glutamine, which normally present great difficulties in their synthesis by conventional methods. © 1965, American Chemical Society.
