Σε αυτή την εργασία παρουσιάζονται επεισόδια της ιστορίας και της κοινωνίας του Μεξικού στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα, όπως εμφανίζονται στο μυθιστόρημα Nadie me verá llorar (1999) της συγγραφέως Cristina Rivera Garza (1964-). Η Μεξικανή συγγραφέας εστιάζει σε συγκεκριμένα ιστορικά γεγονότα, με σκοπό να δείξει πώς η μεξικανική κοινωνία εκείνης της εποχής εφάρμοζε πρακτικές κοινωνικού ελέγχου με σκοπό να καταπιέσει, να κρατήσει περιθωριοποιημένους και φιμωμένους τους ψυχικά ασθενείς και όλες τις κοινωνικές ομάδες που παρέκκλιναν από τους καθιερωμένους κανόνες. Μέσα από τη μελέτη του μυθιστορήματος Nadie me verá llorar αναδεικνύονται θεματικοί άξονες όπως η σχέση γιατρού και ασθενή, στερεότυπα γυναικείου φύλου -εντός και εκτός του περιβάλλοντος του ασύλου La Castañeda- κ.λπ. Στόχος αυτής της μελέτης είναι να εξετάσει τις συνθήκες διαβίωσης ψυχικά ασθενών και κοινωνικά περιθωριοποιημένων ομάδων στο Μεξικό κατά το πρώτο μισό του 20ού αιώνα, εστιάζοντας στις κοινωνικές διακρίσεις και τις αδικίες που διαπράττονται σε βάρος τους. Abstract This work analyzes events of Mexican history and society at the beginning of the 20th century as it appears in the Cristina Rivera Garza’s novel Nadie me verá llorar (1999). The Mexican writer focuses on specific historical facts in order to demonstrate how Mexican society of that time applied practices of social control to oppress the mentally ill and all those social groups that deviated from the established rules and keep them marginalized and silent. Through the study of the novel Nadie me verá llorar, themes such as the relationship between doctor and patient, stereotypes of the female gender, both inside and outside the environment of the La Castañeda asylum, etc. are analyzed. The objective of this study is to examine the living conditions of mentally ill people and socially marginalized groups in Mexico during the first half of the 20th century, focusing on social discrimination and injustices committed against them. RESUMEN En este trabajo se analizan acontecimientos de la historia y la sociedad de México de principios del siglo XX tal como aparece en la novela Nadie me verá llorar (1999) de Cristina Rivera Garza (1964-). La escritora mexicana, se centra en hechos históricos concretos, con el propósito de demostrar cómo la sociedad mexicana de aquella época aplicaba prácticas de control social para oprimir y mantener marginados y callados a los enfermos mentales y todos los grupos sociales que desviaban de las reglas establecidas. A través del estudio de la novela Nadie me verá llorar, se destacan ejes temáticos como la relación entre médico y paciente, los estereotipos del género femenino - dentro y fuera del ambiente del manicomio La Castañeda- etc. El objetivo de este estudio es examinar las condiciones de vida de los enfermos mentales y de los grupos marginados socialmente en México durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, enfocando en la discriminación social y las injusticias cometidas contra ellos.
