Στην παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή πραγματοποιήθηκε χημική ανάλυση των εκχυλισμάτων των πράσινων περικάρπίων του είδους Juglans regia η οποία οδήγησε στην απομόνωση τριανταδύο δευτερογενών μεταβολιτών. Οι ουσίες που απομονώθηκαν και τα εκχυλίσματα των περικαρπίων ελέγχθηκαν για την κυτταροτοξική τους δράση έναντι καρκινικών σειρών. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι ουσίες που ανήκουν στην φυτοχημική ομάδα των τριτερπενίων και των φλαβονοειδών έδειξαν σημαντική τοξικότητα έναντι των καρκινικών κυττάρων. (EL)
Juglans regia pericarps have been used as folk medicine for treatment of cancer and dermatosis in Korea, Japan, and China for a long time.  Current research focused on the chemical analysis of Juglans regia pericarps and the  cytotoxicity of the isolated compounds and extracts against a panel of cancer cell lines. Chemical analysis of the obtained extracts revealed the presence of thirty two secondary metabolites. Among those compounds belonging to pentacyclic triterpenes and flavonoids revealed significant toxicity against cancer cell lines. Moreover compounds belonging to napthoquinones and apocarotenoids revealed moderate activity to cancer cell lines. The  compounds with the most prominent anticancer activity from each phytochemical group were also tested were for apoptosis induction against normal cells and immunomodulatory activity.  (EN)
