A rare complication of pneumonectomy for pulmonary carcinoma in a 70-year-old man is presented. Metallic clips from staple cartridges migrated from the periphery of the stump toward the airway lumen producing chronic, persistent cough 3 years after surgery. The clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic implications of this condition, which most often is encountered by pulmonologists, are discussed and the literature on this topic is reviewed. (EN)
