Στην παρούσα εργασία επιχειρείται η έκθεση και η παράλληλη εξέταση των αντιλήψεων του Πλάτωνα και του Κομφούκιου σχετικά με το ζήτημα του ρόλου που οφείλει να διαδραματίζει ο νομοθέτης και ο νόμος στο ιδανικό για τον καθένα τους σύστημα διακυβέρνησης και πολιτικής οργάνωσης, ιδιαίτερα δε ως προς το ζήτημα της ηθικής διαπαιδαγώγησης των ανθρώπων. Οι πέντε ενότητες στις οποίες είναι χωρισμένη πραγματεύονται την προέλευση και τη φύση των κυβερνητικών προτύπων του κάθε φιλοσόφου, το ζήτημα της ανθρώπινης φύσης, τη σχέση που υπάρχει για τον καθένα μεταξύ της ηθικής και της πολιτικής, τις αρχές που νομιμοποιούν την άριστη μορφή εξουσίας και την προσπάθεια που οφείλουν να καταβάλλουν οι κυβερνώντες να συνδυάσουν τον θεωρητικό και τον πρακτικό βίο, για χάρη, πρωτίστως, της κοινωνικής ευημερίας. In the dissertation, I attempt an exposition and a parallel examination of Plato’s and Confucius’ beliefs regarding the matter of the role that the laws and the lawgiver ought to play in their respective ideal system of governance and of political organization, especially with regards to the matter of the moral edification of the people. The five sections in which it is divided are concerned with the origin and the nature of each philosopher’s governmental ideals, the issue of human nature, the relationship between morality and politics for each thinker, the principles that legitimize the optimal form of governance and the efforts that the authorities ought to make, in order to combine the theoretical and the practical aspects of life, first and foremost for the sake of the prosperity of society as a whole.
