The subject of the present thesis is the description and analysis of the declension of
articles, nouns, adjectives and pronouns and the conjugation of verbal forms used by
fluent speakers of the dialect of Samothraki.
In order to achieve these aims: a) we used oral and written sources of the dialect, data
from personal research and the knowledge of the author as a native speaker; b) we
adopted the following criteria for the examination of the material: 1) a flexible
theoretical approach which combines traditional and modern explanatory theories; 2)
the typological division of the Modern Greek dialects and the basic features for the
dialect classification of Modern Greek by Tzitzilis (in the process of publication).
The thesis comprises 11 chapters: 1. Introduction. 2. Elements of phonetics and
phonology. There follows an examination of the inflection morphology which is
organised into two broader sections: Section A (Chapters 3-7) covers the morphology
of the declension of articles, nouns, adjectives and their degrees of comparison,
numerals and pronouns. Section B (Chapters 8-10) covers the inflection morphology
of the verb system. The final chapter (11) presents the conclusions of the present
study. These summarise the most significant morphological properties of the
declension and conjugation systems. They also demonstrate the significance of the
inflection morphology of the Samothraki dialect for Modern Greek dialectology and
for the history of the Greek language in general, reveal the particular nature of the
dialect and define its relations to the dialects of neighbouring islands, the Thracian-
Bithynian group, and Asia Minor, the South and the South-East.
Αντικείμενο της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η περιγραφή και ανάλυση του
ονοματικού και του ρηματικού κλιτικού συστήματος των επαρκών ομιλητών του
ιδιώματος της Σαμοθράκης.
Για την επίτευξη των παραπάνω στόχων: α. χρησιμοποιήσαμε γραπτές και
προφορικές πηγές του ιδιώματος, δεδομένα από προσωπική έρευνα και η γνώση του
ιδιώματος ως φυσικής ομιλήτριας, β. υιοθετήσαμε τα ακόλουθα κριτήρια για την
επεξεργασία του υλικού: 1) μια ευέλικτη θεωρητική προσέγγιση με διάλογο
παραδοσιακών και νεότερων ερμηνευτικών προτάσεων, 2) η τυπολογική διαίρεση
των νεοελληνικών διαλέκτων και τα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά για τη διαλεκτική
διαίρεση της νέας ελληνικής του Τζιτζιλή (υπό έκδ.).
Η εργασία περιλαμβάνει 11 κεφάλαια: 1. Εισαγωγή, 2. Στοιχεία φωνητικής και
φωνολογίας. Ακολουθεί η εξέταση της κλιτικής μορφολογίας που οργανώνεται σε
δύο ευρύτερες ενότητες: Η Α΄ (κεφ. 3-7) ασχολείται με την κλιτική μορφολογία των
άρθρων, των ουσιαστικών, των επιθέτων και των παραθετικών τους, των αριθμητικών
και των αντωνυμιών. Η B΄ (κεφ. 8-10) ασχολείται με την κλιτική μορφολογία του
ρηματικού συστήματος. Στο τελευταίο κεφ. (11) παρουσιάζονται τα συμπεράσματα
της παρούσας μελέτης, στα οποία συνοψίζονται τα σημαντικότερα μορφολογικά
χαρακτηριστικά του ονοματικού και του ρηματικού κλιτικού συστήματος.
Διαπιστώνεται η σημασία της κλιτικής μορφολογίας του ιδιώματος για τη
νεοελληνική διαλεκτολογία και για την ιστορία της ελληνικής γενικότερα,
αναδεικνύεται η ιδιαίτερη φυσιογνωμία του ιδιώματος και προσδιορίζονται οι σχέσεις
του με τα όμορα νησιά, τη θρακοβιθυνιακή διαλεκτική ομάδα, τα μικρασιατικά, τα
νότια και τα νοτιοανατολικά ιδιώματα.
