The aim of this study is to examine, prioritize and evaluate the factors that influence the learning process, especially in regard to the phenomenon of high school students’ dropout, as reflected in the views of teachers of secondary education.The theoretical part contains an analysis of the influence of socioeconomic factors in the educational process in general and the phenomenon of dropout in particular. After an analysis of the critical concepts of the work, this part is devoted to the literature review which shows the influence of socioeconomic factors in the educational process, the extent of the dropout and the relationship of this phenomenon with particular socio-economic factors.The empirical study is developed in three stages:The first applies an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), with the help of a research tool (questionnaire) that was constructed in order to cover all the socio-economic factors, which were found scattered in the literature research seeming to have some role in the dropout issue.In the second stage of the empirical research, the model is tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The analysis confirms the correctness / validity of the model, leading to conclusions about the responsibility of the family and society, but mainly on the role of the school itself to the issue of dropout.The third stage contains an inductive investigation of the effect on the teachers; attitudes of a series of socio- demographic characteristics, such as gender, profession, years of experience, the workplace and the residential area of the teachers on their attitudes.
