H διδακτορική διατριβή με θέμα: «Καθολικά στην ιατρική ορολογία και μεταφραστικές προτεραιότητες στην εκπαίδευση μεταφραστών από την ιταλική στην ελληνική», απευθύνεται στους μεταφραστές επιστημονικής ορολογίας και ειδικότερα της ιατρικής, με σκοπό να φωτίσει φορμαλιστικές πλευρές της ιατρικής ορολογίας που έχουν ιστορική ερμηνεία και αναδεικνύονται ως γέφυρες εξοικείωσης με την ιταλική ιατρική γλώσσα Ελλήνων μεταφραστών της. Για την υπογράμμιση αυτού του πλεονεκτικού σημείου στην μετάφραση ιατρικών κειμένων από την ιταλική στην ελληνική, εργαστήκαμε σε τρεις άξονες: το γραμματικό γένος, η φορμαλιστικά καθορισμένη μορφή των όρων, και η ιστορική προέλευση των ιταλικών ιατρικών όρων. Το ίδιο πλαίσιο μελέτης υιοθετήσαμε και για τους ισοδύναμους ελληνικούς όρους με τους εξεταζόμενους ιταλικούς. Οι ιταλικοί ιατρικοί όροι αντλήθηκαν από την «Enciclopedia della Medicina» Garzanti και η διαχείριση τους έγινε αρχικά σε πρόγραμμα Excell. Το σύνολο των ιατρικών όρων που αποδελτιώθηκαν είναι 4.234 και βρίσκονται συγκεντρωμένοι όλοι στον Κατάλογο. Μέρος των όρων που αφορούν στο γράμμα Τ, πάνω στο οποίο βασίζεται η διδακτορική διατριβή εισήχθηκαν στο σύγχρονο εργαλείο διαχείρισης ορολογίας SDL Multiterm. Η διατριβή αυτή αποτελεί προέκταση μεταπτυχιακής εργασίας με τίτλο «Gli internazionalismi latini come veicolo di accessibitlita` nei linguaggi settoriali» (Οι διεθνείς λατινισμοί ως μέσον πρόσβασης στις ειδικές γλώσσες) που παρουσιάστηκε και υποστηρίχθηκε το 2005 στο Πανεπιστήμιο CA’ FOSCARI της Βενετίας με επιβλέποντες την Κυρία Ελένη Κασάπη και τον Κύριο Graziano Serragiotto. Τα δεδομένα που προέκυψαν από τη διατριβή εκτιμούμε πως είναι χρήσιμα για την εκπαίδευση των μεταφραστών.
The doctoral thesis on «Universals in medical terminology and translation priorities in the education of translators from Italian to Greek» is intended for translators of scientific terminology and especially medicine, in order to illuminate formalistic aspects of the medical terminology which have historical interpretation and emerge as bridges of familiarity with the Italian medical language of the Greek translators. To underline this advantageous point in the translation of the medical texts from Italian to Greek, we worked on three pillars: the grammatical gender, the definite formalist shape of the terms, and the historical origins of the Italian medical conditions. The same framework of study we adopted with the equivalent to those examined in Italian, Greek terms as well. The Italian medical terms have been drawn from the «Enciclopedia della Medicina» Garzanti and their management has been initially processed and presented in an organized format by using the spreadsheet application program «Excell». The total number of the medical terms translated are 4.234, concentrated all in the Catalogue. Part of the terms concerning letter T, on which this doctoral thesis is based, is introduced by the modern tool of terminology management SDL Multiterm. The present thesis is an extended part of the dissertation for the MA degree, entitled «Gli internazionalismi latini come veicolo di accessibitlita` nei linguaggi settoriali» (International Latinisms as a vehicle of access to specific languages) submitted and presented for defence in 2005 at the University of Venice CA’ FOSCARI, supervised by Mrs. Helen Kasapi and Mr. Graziano Serragiotto. The data extracted from the thesis, we consider to be valuable for the education of translators.
