Η διατριβή αυτή πραγματεύεται τον ιδιαίτερο ρόλο που έπαιξαν οι οικίες και οι κοινότητες της κεντρικής και νότιας ηπειρωτικής χώρας στη διαμόρφωση της κοινωνικής, οικονομικής, πολιτικής και ιστορικής πραγματικότητας των μυκηναϊκών κρατιδίων κατά τη διάρκεια της ανακτορικής περιόδου (ΥΕΙΙΙΑ-IIIΒ). Εξετάζει τα ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά των διακριτών αυτών κοινωνικών υποκειμένων μέσα από την μελέτη των αρχιτεκτονικών καταλοίπων οικιακού χαρακτήρα και των καθημερινών δραστηριοτήτων που λάμβαναν χώρα στο πλαίσιο τους. Η μελέτη αυτή ανέδειξε τον ισχυρό βαθμό διαφοροποίησης και τον πολυσχιδή χαρακτήρα των οικιακών ομάδων, οι οποίες μέσα από τις καθημερινές δραστηριότητες της παραγωγής, κατανάλωσης, προμήθειας πόρων και κοινωνικής αναπαραγωγής, διεκδίκησαν έναν ρόλο ενεργητικό στα οικονομικά και πολιτικά δρώμενα στο πλαίσιο των μυκηναϊκών ανακτορικών κρατιδίων. Τα ανάκτορα παρέμειναν, πάντως, οι βασικοί παίκτες σε όλες τις εκφάνσεις της κοινωνικής, οικονομικής και πολιτικής ζωής καθ' όλο το διάστημα της ανακτορική περιόδου. Δεν ήταν, όμως, οι μοναδικοί παίκτες καθώς κρίσιμος αποδείχτηκε ο ρόλος και των μυκηναϊκών οικιακών ομάδων και κοινοτήτων, όπως μπορέσαμε τουλάχιστον να συμπεράνουμε από την εντατική μελέτη των οικιών τους, όσων εντοπίστηκαν σε οικισμούς πρωτίστως της Αργολίδας και της Μεσσηνίας και δευτερευόντως της υπόλοιπης κεντρικής και νότιας ηπειρωτικής χώρας.
This thesis deals with the impactful role played by households of central and southern mainland Greece in shaping the social, economic, political and historical settings of Mycenaean states during the palatial period (LHIIIA-IIIB). It explores the various characteristics of these distinct social subjects, i.e. the co-residential groups and the communities they formed, through the study of the domestic built environment and of the everyday activities that took place within it.Through the architectural, distributional, spatial and demographic analysis of forty-five residential complexes from seven settlements of the Argolid and four of Messenia, we drew conclusions on the everyday practices of their residential groups and how production, consumption, transmission and reproduction, biological and social, shaped and determined the form, structure and function of each household. In order to complement and further our conclusions, we turn to the existing textual evidence as found on Linear B Tablets, and we employ the results of our study of 388 LBA households, from settlements of southern and central mainland Greece as they appear in the Database we designed. This study highlighted the degree of differentiation amongst houses and the multifaceted nature of households, which, through their daily activities claimed an active role in the political economy of Mycenaean palatial states. The palaces remained the prime players in all aspects of social, economic and political life throughout the palatial period. Nevertheless, it seems that they were not the only players as the role of mycenaean households and communities is now considered crucial, as we have been able to conclude through the study of their houses, at least those unearthed in settlements primarily of the Argolid and Messenia and secondarily of central and southern mainland Greece.
