Σκοπὸς τῆς παρούσας διατριβῆς εἶναι ἡ κατὰ τὸ δυνατὸν ἀκριβέστερη καὶ πληρέστερη καταγραφὴ ὅλων τῶν ὑμνογραφικῶν συνθέσεων τοῦ Γερμανοῦ Α΄, ἐκδεδομένων καὶ ἀνεκδότων, καθὼς καὶ ἡ διεξοδικὴ μορφολογική, γλωσσική, συντακτική, ὑφολογική, μετρική καὶ ἐννοιολογικὴ προσέγγιση αὐτῶν. Ἡ διατριβὴ διαρθρώνεται σὲ δύο μέρη. Στὸ Πρῶτο Μέρος παρουσιάζεται ἱστορικὰ ἡ προσωπικότητα τοῦ ποιητῆ καὶ τὸ σύνολο τῆς συγγραφικῆς παραγωγῆς του, μὲ ἔμφαση στὸ ποιητικό του ἔργο. Στὸ Δεύτερο Μέρος ἐκδίδονται ὅλα τὰ ἐντοπισθέντα σὲ χειρόγραφους κώδικες ἀνέκδοτα ποιητικὰ ἔργα τοῦ Γερμανοῦ Α΄, ἤτοι 25 κανόνες καὶ 2 στιχηρά. Ὁ Γερμανὸς ὑπῆρξε πολυγραφότατος ὑμνογράφος, ἀλλὰ καὶ σπουδαῖος μελῳδός. Συνέθεσε 20 εἱρμούς, 53 ᾀσματικοὺς κανόνες, 56 στιχηρὰ ἰδιόμελα, 10 στιχηρὰ προσόμοια καὶ 1 ἐπίγραμμα. Τὰ ποιήματα τοῦ Γερμανοῦ Α΄ εἶναι συντεθειμένα τόσο γιὰ τὶς μεγάλες δεσποτικὲς καὶ θεομητορικὲς ἑορτές, ὅσο καὶ γιὰ τὶς ἑορτὲς ἁγίων. Θέματα ποὺ γίνονται ἀντικείμενο πραγμάτευσης τῶν κανόνων τοῦ ποιητῆ ἀποτέλεσαν οἱ βασικὲς ἀλήθειες τοῦ Χριστολογικοῦ καὶ τοῦ Τριαδολογικοῦ δόγματος, ἡ ἁγιότητα τῆς Θεοτόκου καὶ ἡ συμμετοχή Της στὸ μυστήριο τῆς θείας Ἐνανθρώπησης τοῦ Λόγου τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἡ προσκύνηση τῶν ἱερῶν εἰκόνων καὶ λειψάνων, οἱ ἀγῶνες τῶν Μαρτύρων καὶ τῶν Ὁμολογητῶν, τὰ φρικτὰ βασανιστήρια ποὺ ὑπέστησαν καὶ ὁ ἀσκητικὸς βίος τῶν ὁσίων. Ὁ λόγος τοῦ ὑμνογράφου εἶναι ἁπλὸς καὶ κατανοητός. Ἡ γλώσσα καὶ ἡ σύνταξη εἶναι ὁμαλή. Τὸ ὕφος του καθίσταται ἄμεσο καὶ παραστατικὸ μὲ τὴν εὐρεία χρήση πλήθους ἐκφραστικῶν σχημάτων, τὰ ὁποῖα προσδίδουν γλωσσικὴ χάρη. Ἐκτιμοῦμε ὅτι μὲ τὴν παρούσα ἐκτεταμένη καὶ διεξοδικὴ ἔρευνα ἀναπληρώνεται τὸ κενὸ μίας συστηματικῆς παρουσίασης τοῦ ὑμνογραφικοῦ ἔργου τοῦ Γερμανοῦ Α΄.
The purpose of my doctoral thesis is a detailed study of all hymnographic works of Germanos Ι, edited and unedited, as well as the thorough morphological, linguistic, syntactic, stylistic, metric and conceptual approach of them. The study consists of two parts. The First Part presents historically the personality of Germanos I and his whole literary production with emphasis on his poetic works. In the Second Part are edited 25 kanons and 2 stichera og Germanos I. The corpus of hymns associated with name of Germanos I includes 20 heirmos, 53 kanons, 56 stichera idiomela, 10 stichera prosomoia and 1 epigram. The poems of Germanos I are composed both for Christological and Mariological feasts, as well as for the feasts of Saints. Τhe subjects of the poet's kanons are: the basic truths of the Christological and Mariological doctrine, the holiness of Virgin Mary and Her pivotal role in Christ’s Incarnation, the worship of the sacred images and relics, the horrible tortures of the Martyrs and the ascetic life of the saints. Τhe language and the syntax of Germanos I is simple. His style becomes direct and expressive with the wide use of a number of expressive forms. I appreciate that with the present extensive and thorough research the desideratum of a systematic presentation of the poetic works of Germanos I has been completed.
