Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή επιχειρεί τη διερεύνηση της “Ετερότητας” μέσω του χαρακτήρα του Εβραίου σε ιταλικά και ελληνικά θεατρικά έργα -συγγραφέων μη εβραϊκής καταγωγής- από τον 16ο αι. (1509) έως και την σύγχρονη εποχή (2018). Εξετάζουμε την ύπαρξη αντισημιτικών στερεοτύπων σε έργα πριν από το Ολοκαύτωμα, αλλά και την επιβίωση τέτοιων στερεοτύπων σε σύγχρονα έργα, εστιάζοντας στον τύπο του Εβραίου ως αντικείμενο διακωμώδησης. Η ιστορική, θεατρολογική και συγκριτολογική προσέγγιση των κειμένων στοχεύουν στο να αναδείξουν τις πτυχές ενός τόσο σύνθετου και διαχρονικού ζητήματος. Εν κατακλείδι διαπιστώνουμε πως όλα τα διαχρονικά και τόσο αναγνωρίσιμα αντισημιτικά στερεότυπα εντοπίζονται τόσο στα ιταλικά, όσο και στα ελληνικά θεατρικά έργα. Αυτό που διαφέρει κάθε φορά είναι το κίνητρο, η οπτική των συγγραφέων ανάλογα με την εποχή. Σε παλιότερα έργα, οι Εβραίοι εμφανίζονται είτε ως προαιώνιοι εχθροί, είτε ως θεοκτόνοι, είτε ως αντικείμενα διακωμώδησης. Αντιθέτως, τα θεατρικά έργα που γράφτηκαν μετά το Ολοκαύτωμα αναφέρονται στους Εβραίους ως θύματα ενός απολύτως παράλογου και βάναυσου ρατσισμού.
This Doctoral Thesis attempts to explore the “Otherness” through the featuring of the Jew in Italian and Greek theatrical works- by non-Jewish playwrights - from the 16th century (1509) to contemporary times (2018). We investigate the existence of anti-Semitic stereotypes in works written before the Holocaust but also the survival of such stereotypes in modern works, focusing on the type of the Jew as an object of ridicule. The historic, theatrical and comparative approach to the plays aim at depicting the different aspects of this complex and ever-lasting issue. In conclusion, we determine that all intertemporal and so recognizable anti-Semitic stereotypes are found in both Italian and Greek plays. Nevertheless, the motivation, the perspective of the writers is differentiated depending on the era: In older plays, the Jews appear either as eternal enemies, or as deicides, or as objects of derision. On the contrary, plays written after the Holocaust are referring to Jews as victims of an utterly absurd and brutal racism.
