Η διατριβή αποτελείται από τέσσερα κεφάλαια και είναι οργανωμένη ως ακολούθως. Το Κεφάλαιο 1 αποτελεί μια λεπτομερή καταγραφή του ελληνικού συστήματος υγείας καθώς και των μεταρρυθμίσεων που εφαρμόστηκαν στον τομέα υγείας κατά την προηγούμενη δεκαετία. Λειτουργεί ως μια εισαγωγή στα τρία κεφάλαια που ακολουθούν και τα οποία αναλύουν τάσεις αναφορικά με τις διαφορετικές όψεις των ανισοτήτων υγείας. Το Κεφάλαιο 2 εστιάζει στις ανισότητες πρόσβασης στο ελληνικό σύστημα υγείας. Το Κεφάλαιο 3 μετράει ανισότητες στις ίδιες (out-of-pocket) δαπάνες υγείας των νοικοκυριών καθώς και στις καταστροφικές δαπάνες υγείας. Το Κεφάλαιο 4 μετράει την ανισότητα στην κατάσταση υγείας (αποτελέσματα υγείας). Στα συμπεράσματα συνοψίζεται η διατριβή και προτείνονται θέματα για μελλοντική έρευνα. Η διατριβή αυτή ολοκληρώθηκε με την οικονομική συνδρομή και στήριξη του Ιδρύματος Κρατικών Υποτροφιών (ΙΚΥ).
This thesis is comprised by four chapters and is organized as follows. Chapter 1 is a detailed presentation of the Greek healthcare system and the reforms pursued in the healthcare sector in the last decade. It serves as an introduction to the remaining three chapters that analyze trends in different aspects of health inequalities. Chapter 2 deals with inequalities in access to the Greek healthcare system. Chapter 3 measures inequality in out-of-pocket health payments and in catastrophic out-of-pocket health payments. Chapter 4 measures inequality in health status (health outcomes). A concluding section summarizes the thesis and proposes areas for future research. This work was completed with the financial support and assistance of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY).
