In this doctoral thesis, a detailed investigation of the defections, their causes, effects and consequences is carried out in order to form a complete picture of the Athenian alliance and the entire network of relations that had formed between Athens and the Allies. The political relations are explored in turn, and the way in which the polity of the allied cities was influenced. In addition, the main causes of the defections on a political, social and economic level are investigated. Finally, it is examined whether the defections were due to political, social or economic reasons, or other factors motivated them.
Στην παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή πραγματοποιείται μια λεπτομερειακή διερεύνηση των αποστασιών, των αιτίων, των επιδράσεων και των συνεπειών τους ώστε να σχηματισθεί μία πλήρης εικόνα της αθηναϊκής συμμαχίας και του πλέγματος σχέσεων που είχε διαμορφωθεί μεταξύ Αθηναίων και Συμμάχων. Διερευνώνται οι πολιτικές σχέσεις και εξετάζεται ο τρόπος με τον οποίο είχε επηρεασθεί το πολίτευμα των συμμαχικών πόλεων από το αθηναϊκό, καθώς και οι οικονομικές σχέσεις μεταξύ της Αθήνας και των Συμμάχων. Επιπλέον, διερευνώνται τα βασικά αίτια των αποστασιών σε πολιτικό, κοινωνικό και οικονομικό επίπεδο, εξετάζεται δηλαδή αν οι αποστασίες οφείλονταν σε πολιτικούς, κοινωνικούς, οικονομικούς λόγους, ή και σε επιρροή άλλου παράγοντα.
