Pascal is the thinker who demonstrated in his writings both the fragility and the greatness of human existence.Human existence is tragic insofar as its death leads to nothingness while it constitutes in itself the interface between everything and nothing.Pascal's pensees are a timeless and universal work because they show that self consciousness necessarily leads to anxiety when human existence refrains from thinking it falls into deficiency and the absence of anxiety.Human beings are destined to anxiety as long as they live.Pascal was the quintessential philosopher of anxiety and the founding father of existentialism.He never rested physically or intellectually.For him man is a thinking reed in full knowledge of his dying nature.The very essence of dignity is founded in pascalian thought.For pascal christianity and christ himself are always in a state of anxiety from the garden of gethsemane to the end of times.
Ο πασκάλ είναι ο διανοητής που κατέδειξε με το στοχασμό του το εύθραυστο της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης και το μεγαλείο της. Η ανθρώπινη ύπαρξη είναι τραγική εφόσον ο θάνατος την οδηγεί στο μηδέν και αποτελεί το ενδιάμεσο ανάμεσα στο παν και στο μηδέν. Οι στοχασμοί του πασκάλ είναι διαχρονικοί και ανθρώπινοι εφόσον ο στοχαστής κατέδειξε ότι η αυτοσυνειδησία οδηγεί στην αγωνία και όταν η ανθρώπινη ύπαρξη δε στοχάζεται οδηγείται σε ελλειπτικότητα και σε απουσία αγωνίας. Όσο ζει ο άνθρωπος αγωνιά .Ο πασκάλ υπήρξε ο κατεξοχήν φιλόσοφος της αγωνίας και είναι ο προπάτωρ του υπαρξισμού. Ο φιλόσοφος ούτε στιγμή δεν αναπαύτηκε σωματικά και πνευματικά. Μέσω της αγωνίας η ύπαρξη αναγεννάται και οδηγείται στη διακονία του παραδόξου. Ο άνθρωπος αποτελεί ένα καλάμι που στοχάζεται και γνωρίζει ότι πεθαίνει. Όλη η αξιοπρέπεια θεμελιώνεται στη σκέψη του. Για τον πασκάλ όπως ο χριστιανισμός έτσι και ο χριστός βρίσκεται πάντα σε αγωνία εντός του κήπου της γεθσημανή έως τη συντέλεια του κόσμου.
