This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University. The purpose of this work is to study the perspectives of topology optimization of a brake calliper, in order to reduce its weight by and maintaining its mechanical properties at the same level. To achieve this goal the following procedures was done: • thematic research • development of mathematical models of topological optimization • a series of optimization / redesign experiments • comparison of initial and final product Scientific innovation: is the effort to integrate topology optimization in mass production using conventional materials combined with additive manufacturing. Practical significance • Accelerate the process from the initial idea to the final production phase • Material savings Paper’s Volume and structure. The paper consists of an introduction, 4 chapters and the conclusion. The total volume of the project is 65 pages, including 50 figures and 3 tables. The list of references contains 34 titles. (EN)
