The thesis examines the developmemt of Greek-Bulgarian affairs between 1954 and 1981 as an interesting case-study of Cold War diplomacy marked by the paradoxical role of the West-East confrontation as approaching rather than dividing factor in relations between Greece and Bulgaria. The study argues that the Greek-Bulgarian rapprochement in the late post-war period and the converting ofdecadesof mistrust and hostility into good-neighborliness and will for cooperationrepresent in Balkan and European history that gains in importance in the light of the fact it occured within the framework of Cold War politics and the two countries' belonging to two rival political, economic and social systems. The thesis approaches the issue under examination from historical, macro-political and micro-political perspective and constitutes the first thorough study of the Greek-Bulgarian political and economic relations in the late post-war period.
