Στην παρούσα εργασία παρουσιάζεται η εικόνα των εξωαστικών ιερών των νησιών του Αιγαίου κατά τη Ρωμαϊκή Αυτoκρατορική εποχή, μέσω των υλικών καταλοίπων που σώζονται σε αυτά. Τα ιερά των νησιών που περιλαμβάνονται στην εργασία είναι το Ιερό των Μεγάλων Θεών στη Σαμοθράκη, το Ιερό των Καβείρων στη Λήμνο, το Ιερό της Ήρας στη Σάμο, το Ιερό του Ποσειδώνος και της Αμφιτρίτης στην Τήνο, το Ιερό του Απόλλωνος στη Δήλο, το Ιερό του Διονύσου στη Νάξο, το Ιερό του Ασκληπιού και το Ιερό του Απόλλωνος στην Κω και το Ιερό της Αθηνάς Λινδίας στη Ρόδο.
Τα ιερά έχουν επιλεχθεί με κριτήριο την ύπαρξη τουλάχιστον δύο εκ των τριών κατηγοριών μνημείων (επιγραφές, γλυπτά, κτήρια) σε αυτά και μόνον εκείνων με επιβεβαιωμένο τόπο προέλευσης ή εύρεσης εντός των ιερών, προς αποφυγήν διατύπωσης εσφαλμένων συμπερασμάτων. Οι επιγραφές που λαμβάνονται υπόψιν είναι εκείνες που αφορούν την αυτοκρατορική παρουσία στους προς μελέτη χώρους. Η παρουσίαση των ευρημάτων συνοδεύεται από σύντομο ιστορικό πλαίσιο για κάθε νησί και ιερό, ώστε να δημιουργηθεί μια όσο το δυνατόν πιο ολοκληρωμένη εικόνα της εποχής. Τα ιερά και τα σχετικά με αυτά υλικά κατάλοιπα, παρουσιάζονται αρχικά γεωγραφικά, από βορρά προς νότο και κατόπιν χρονολογικά, από τα τέλη του 1ου π.Χ. αιώνα έως και τα τέλη του 5ου μ.Χ. αιώνα.

The aim of this thesis, is to present the extra muros sanctuaries of the Aegean Islands during the Roman Imperial Period, by studying their remaining materials. The sanctuaries included are: the Sanctuary of the Great Gods on Samothrace, the Kaveirion Sanctuary on Lemnos, the Heraion of Samos, the Sanctuary of Poseidon and Amphitrite in Tinos, the Sanctuary of Dionysus in Naxos, the Sanctuary of Apollo on Delos, the Sanctuaries of Asclepius and Apollo in Kos and the Sanctuary of Athena Lindia on Rhodes.
The criteria based on which these sanctuaries were chosen, is the presence of at least two out of three monument categories (epigraphs, sculptures, buildings) in them and only those with an established place of origin, or those that were undoubtedly placed inside the sanctuaries, in order to avoid drawing the wrong conclusions. The epigraphs included are those that pertain to the imperial cult in the relevant sanctuaries. The presentation of the finds is accompanied by a short historical overview for every island and sanctuary, so as to create a comprehensive picture. The sanctuaries and their remainings, are presented firstly in geographical order, from north to south, and then chronologically, from the end of the 1st century B.C. up to the 5th century A.C.
