Η παρούσα έρευνα εστιάζει στον καίριο ρόλο που αποδίδει ο Πρόκλος στη μουσική ως παράγοντα ανάπτυξης των νέων. Εξετάζεται η άποψή του πως η μουσική, με τους ρυθμούς και τις αρμονίες της, μεταμορφώνεται σε πολιτικό θεσμό, με στόχο την καλλιέργεια της ψυχής και την ηθική βελτίωση. Η έρευνα έρχεται σε διάλογο με τις ιδέες του Keith Swanwick (1983) περί της μουσικής γνώσης, καταλήγοντας στο συμπέρασμα πως και οι δύο φιλόσοφοι θεωρούν τη μουσική θεμελιώδες στοιχείο στην ανάπτυξη του ατόμου. Ωστόσο, ο Πρόκλος εστιάζει στην κοινωνικοποίηση της μουσικής, με στόχο τη μεταφορά αξιών από τον συνθέτη στο κοινό. Ο Swanwick, από την άλλη, ερμηνεύει την ανάπτυξη μουσικής γνώσης ως ένα στάδιο που εκκινεί από τα Μουσικά Αγαθά ως Υλικά και φτάνει έως τις Ηθικές Αρετές ως Αξίες. This research focuses on the crucial role that Proclus attributes to music as a factor in the development of young people. It examines his view that music, with its rhythms and harmonies, is transformed into a political institution, with the aim of cultivating the soul and moral improvement. The research enters into dialogue with Keith Swanwick's (1983) ideas about musical knowledge, concluding that both philosophers consider music to be a fundamental element in the development of the individual. However, Proclus focuses on the socialization of music, with the aim of transmitting values from the composer to the audience. Swanwick, on the other hand, interprets the development of musical knowledge as a stage that starts from Musical Goods as Materials and reaches Moral Virtues as Values. In conclusion, the research underlines the decisive role that music plays, according to Proclus and Swanwick, in the development of the individual and society. Quality music, by cultivating spirituality, morality and values, also unites people.
